BREAKING THE CANON

SMC members have written a comprehensive paper that details the unequal representation within the 40 series, a set of courses dedicated to the history of theater and drama. This paper serves to challenge the history taught thus far in hopes of reaching a more equal and diverse representation of what all the thematic arts have to offer.

Hosted by Tolu Ekisola and Leah Jackson, Breaking the Canon is a theater history podcast intended to supplement and challenge the Drama 40 series curriculum. It grapples with the theater history left out of the course and questions why certain information is included at the expense of other information. In each episode Tolu and Leah will dives into the cultural, historical, and sociopolitical contexts of a certain era of genre of theater, to help deepen the understanding of what American theater is and how it came to be this way.
